National Lottery Rewards Junior Sailing in Plockton

Plockton Small Boat Sailing Club (PSBSC) has been awarded £10,000 following a successful application to the National Lottery ‘Awards for All’ scheme.  The money will be used for the purchase of sailing dinghies to boost the Club's junior sailing programme. The boats – RS Fevas - are particularly suited to enable teenage sailors to develop their skills further after gaining initial training and experience in the Club’s Toppers.

The award from the National Lottery supplements an earlier charitable donation also aimed at purchasing sailing dinghies to increase opportunities for the young sailors in the area. In total the combined funds are sufficient for the purchase of four RS Fevas and 1 RS Vision (a slightly bigger boat which can be used for training activities, including adult training). All new boats will be available for the start of the 2011 sailing season. An exciting programme of activities is planned for next year, including for the first time, a dedicated junior race series running throughout the sailing season.

These awards come as a welcome achievement at the end of a season where PSBSC has successfully sought to increase membership through initiatives such as a new website, local advertising of regular open club night sessions and increased training opportunities (including instructor training and junior race training). Numbers are over 20% up on 2009 membership figures, with over 140 active memberships this year.

PSBSC will shortly be launching a competition to name the new boats, full details of which will be announced shortly.

Full details of how to get involved in sailing, PSBSC activities planned for next year and a full race calendar for 2011 will be posted at www.plockton-sailing.com
